5 Tips for Writing Holiday Cards

Simple Ways to Write Memorable Holiday Cards

Christmas is right around the corner and as you’re scrambling to remember if you already got uncle Bob’s present, you’re also wracking your brain trying to remember if you missed anyone on your list to send holiday cards to. Many of us don’t usually write letters anymore, but Christmas time is always a great opportunity to send a little note. If you haven’t yet sent out those holiday cards, here are a few tips to make the writing process quicker, yet meaningful. After all, writing holiday cards isn’t about writing the perfect note.

First, make sure that each card is personal and begin on a happy note. If you have holiday cards that are blank inside, start off by wishing the recipient happy holidays or Merry Christmas. From there you can briefly mention a memorable or happy event and a brief summary or snapshot of your year. Be concise, you only have so much space and most people don’t want to read a novel detailing everything that’s happened over the last year. On that note, the holiday card content should not be only about you. Pretend you’re speaking to them face-to-face. You wouldn’t have a one-sided conversation without asking about how things are with them. The same goes for holiday cards. Be sure to ask how their family is doing and offer congratulations if a happy event has happened for them.  Tie up the end of your holiday cards by once again, a positive note. You want the reader to walk away feeling loved.

If you’re planning on mailing your holiday cards, there’s still  a little time to get your holiday cards out, so don’t let writer’s block deter you. E-cards are also a good option as they are free and the recipient receives the card instantly.

For those who sent (or plan on sending) holiday cards this year, which way do you prefer: the traditional mail card or E-cards? Please leave a comment below.
