San Diego 2014 July Events Calendar

Written by Dennis Smith

Wow, can you believe it. The middle of summer is here! Time for some delicious BBQ, hanging out  at the beach or a baseball game or staying cool indoors watching the summer’s blockbusters. If you’re looking for something different to do this July, San Diego has plenty of fun events scheduled.  San Diego’s July events calendar is full of camps for kids of all ages, outdoor movie nights, festivals, concerts, walking tours, and of course ideas to help you  celebrate the Fourth of July! Whether you’re into literature (the annual Shakespeare festival is always a hit), walking, camping, music, history, learning about other cultures, comics (did I fail to mention that the world-famous Comic Con will be held July 24-27?) or watching sports (don’t miss the ever popular Over the Line Tournament in mid July), you’ll find it in San Diego!

Speaking of the July 4th, many communities around San Diego offer some sort of celebration which usually features a morning parade, plenty of BBQ and the all important fireworks show synchronized to patriotic music. One good ideas is to celebrate the 4th of July at the San Diego County Fair. The fair usually has band performances, a parade, special events and an amazing fireworks show to top things off. For more information about Independence Day celebration in a specific community, your best bet is to either ask around or do some research online. On the July events calendar, I’ve included a link with information about 4th of July celebrations that will be held around San Diego.

Feel free to download, print and share the following 2014 San Diego July events calendar and enjoy!

Now through the end of June, Wells Fargo is holding a contest for local nonprofit and service organizations whereby the winner will be awarded $25,000! The organization with the most votes by July wins.

Now onto my friend Sally and her organization named Next Step Service Dogs…

Next Step Service Dogs trains dogs to become companions for returning service men and women who suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or a traumatic brain injury. They have completed training and certification for 10 service dogs for veterans with PTSD last year, and currently have 10 dogs in training (will probably complete 15 or more certifications this year).

So the training is going great, but additional funding is needed for continued progress and expansion.

To see more of the dogs (who are mostly rescues) who give new life to veterans with PTSD, see

Sally has seen the transformation that these service dogs bring to veterans who suffer with PTSD and traumatic brain injury. She mentioned that “the dogs do not cure them but they often give the veteran the basics of a new joyful life, the ability to go to the store again, play with their children, sleep more than 2 hours a night, and not bury themselves in pain. It is stunning.”

There are only a few days left in the contest, so be sure to click on the link above daily to vote for Sally and Next Step Service Dogs.
