Client Appreciation Party: Jan 2013

Written by Dennis Smith

Let us be grateful to people who make us happy;
they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.” — by Marcel Proust

What makes me happy?
   You: our clients.
   You: our clients turned friends.

Twice a year we throw a Client Appreciation Party. Sunshine goes all out with tasty food and treats including my favorite – the chocolate fountain. The days beforehand, our kitchen is busy with friends popping by to help chop, slice, stir and cook what soon will be quite a feast. I love the smells, laughter and chatter coming from the kitchen. I do my best to stay out of the way and focus on business – however, occasionally I must volunteer myself as the taste tester.

Our Winter Client Party and White Elephant Silent Auction offers: Food, Friendship, Fun and Fundraising. I enjoy watching our new & past clients make new friends and swap stories. I’ll share one such story about one of our clients who traveled from Manitoba, Canada, and down the Amazon River by canoe in another blog.

Suffice it to say our parties require lots of helpers to pack and unpack the truck, stack and unstack chairs, decorate and arrange food, tables and raffle items to be aesthetically pleasing, provide music and massage, and register and welcome clients, friends and guests. We are so grateful to Rinkie & Ron, Pat, Ron & Jackie, Bob & Sandy, Rose & Norm & Kathy, Lorraine, Cal, Melaini, Linda and Julie of the Lions Club and Claire, Rebecca, Jen, Fran & Diane for pitching in. Our clients are a generous bunch offering both items to auction and bidding on items to raise funds for the Lions Club.

It makes me happy to serve you as your real estate professional and to encourage friendships through our semi-annual parties. Watch some snippets of the action on video above.

Things to do in San Diego: March 2013

Written by Dennis Smith

Lad and Lassies a poem of friendship for you!

Wishing you a rainbow
For sunlight after showers –
Miles and miles of Irish smiles
For golden happy hours –
Shamrocks at your doorway
For luck and laughter too,
And a host of friends that never ends
Each day your whole life through!

Lots of things to do this month. Check out Great Balls of Fire at Balboa Park – appropriate I think after Russia got hit with a meteor recently. Get your Irish on and celebrate at St. Patrick’s Festival in the Gaslamp District. Seaport Village is hosting the Busker Festival with some fun street performers. And the end of the month brings Easter. Grab the kids and head to Hotel Del Coronado for crafts and Easter Egg Hunt.

Sub Zero: Science Meets Taste Buds

Written by Dennis Smith

My taste buds meet science recently at the ribbon cutting for Sub Zero in Encinitas. Sub Zero owner, multi-unit operator and master mixologist Suneethi Gudapati blasted colder than cold liquid nitrogen into our ice cream to freeze it instantly. The freshest, creamiest, ice cream appeared out of smoke and disappeared almost as quickly once I wrapped my taste buds around it.

Sub Zero has endless flavor possibilities as each cup of ice cream, yogurt or custard is made to order. You can even choose soy or rice milk as a base if you are looking for a lactose-free or vegan option. Once you have selected your base you can choose as many flavors as you want. Seriously. That means if you want a caramel, licorice, maple, piña colada and white chocolate ice cream, they can do that.

If you want burnt almond fudge, bubblegum, watermelon, pumpkin and root beer yogurt, they can do that too.

Sub ZeroWant just boring old vanilla or chocolate custard? No worries; they are equally undaunted by simplicity. If that’s not enough; SubZero offers 30 different types of mix-ins to spice things up.

Suneethi told us they also do catering for special events and frequently go into schools to entertain and delight kids. I guess I’m just a big kid as I was mesmerized by the flash freezing process and fluffy white smoke – see for yourself by clicking on the Bird Dog to your left.

You can experience this too at their new Encinitas location in the Trader Joe/Ralphs Shopping Center at Encinitas Blvd & El Camino Real.  You can also go to their kiosks at the North County Malls in Carlsbad & Escondido.
